The Great Kennal Vale Micro-Hydro Challenge

Micro-Hydro Challenge

This one week intensive second year team project was a collaborative event between students from Falmouth University’s BA(Hons) Sustainable Product Design and University of Exeter’s BSc Renewable Energy courses.  Students designed and made a micro-hydro turbine/ generator from ‘recycled found materials and machinery’. Using the small rocky streams in the historic Kennall Vale site, the generators were tried and tested by lighting up a range of light bulbs to measure wattage output.  The winners successfully generated an impressive 60 watts of power.
